In computer-based training (CBT), trainees use a computer-based system to increase their knowledge or skills interactively. This may mean presenting trainees with computerized simulations and using multimedia to help the trainees learn the job. But often, computer-based training is less complex and may simply involve reviewing PowerPoint slides online and passing a quiz. In computerized management games, trainees split into five- or six-person companies, each of which has to compete with the others in a simulated marketplace. Each company can make several decisions. For example, the group may be allowed to decide how much to spend on advertising, how much to produce, how much inventory to maintain, and how many of which product to produce. Usually, the game compresses a 2- or 3-year period into days, weeks, or months.
