Answers will vary. Key points mentioned should include the benefits of providing a more normal environment for persons who have not yet been found guilty of anything (most people in jail are simply awaiting trial) and a note that research finds a decrease in property destruction and reduced levels of vandalism in new-generation jails. Problems include the possible perception by the public that inmates are being pampered rather than deterred and that retribution is not being obtained.
