Following properties of phospholipids make them an ideal choice for being an integral part of plasma membrane: 1. Polarity: Phospholipids are composed of polar hydrophilic head and non-polar hydrophobic tails.

Hydrophillic heads and hydrophobic tails form a membrane that is semipermiable to certain mollecules, and allows proteins to be embedded, while keeping water out and in the cell.
