1. A group of children were asked how many hours a day they spend watching television. Determine the mean, mode, and median and graph it using a histogram. Please provide explanation.

Oh yeah!

Median:

Add 1 + 4+ 7 +3+2+1 = 18

18 / 2 = 9

median is between the 9th and 10th observation.

1 + 4 + 7 = 11

The third row has cumulative frequency of 11

The third row passes the 9th and 10th results, so the median must be in there.

Median is 2-3 hours.

As is the mode, it's the one that repeats most often.

I understand the 18/2 and also apparently you are supposed to do 18+1/2 = 9.5th term.
How would you find the 9.5th term with the following, you still choose the 9th term?

Median is 2-3 hours.

I pointed out the median occurs between 2-3 hours. However, I was mistaken after looking at it further.

The median occurs between 2 and 3 hours, so 2.5.

Now, when working with grouped data, use a modal interval in place of a mode. The modal interval is the interval with the greatest frequency, namely 2-3 hours.

srry I have one more question
if you were asked to mark the measures of central tendency on the histogram it would look something like this and even though the 2.7 isn't exactly 2.5 but it is still quite close, you would consider it as a perfectly symmetric distribution or uniform?

It doesn't look symmetric to me.

In a symmetric distribution such as the uniform distribution, the mean, median, and mode will all be equal.

This is a non-symmetric or skewed distribution, where the mean, median, and mode differ.

thats exactly what I thought, negatively distribution, but for some reason my teacher had mentioned today that it was uniform distribution and I wasnt sure why :/ most likely made a mistake

although mode and median are the only ones that are the same

only 2 of them are equal but just like u said it still wouldnt be symmetric distribution but yes my teacher may have made a mistake
