Edgar is seeing a clinical psychologist for treatment of antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). He has not been incarcerated, but he's had enough close calls with the law that treatment seems like a useful option. During the course of his sessions, Edgar mentions to his therapist a detailed plan for murdering his landlord while she is asleep, and then burning down the apartment building to conceal his crime. What would Edgar's therapist be able to do with this information?

▸ The therapist would be able to break confidentiality with Edgar, given a clear threat to others has been presented.

▸ The therapist should remain silent unless Edgar says, "I'm really going to do it," and then ask Edgar for more details.

▸ The therapist must do nothing, given the bond of confidentiality between client and therapist.

▸ The therapist is legally obligated under federal law to contact the landlord as quickly as possible.
