Answers may vary, but should contain the following for full credit: Julian Rotter proposed the concept of locus of control as a disposition (i.e., a personality dimension) to perceive the amount of control we have over a certain situation. People with an internal locus of control believe they can control the situations they are in, and therefore control their own rewards and their own fate. Those with an external locus of control believe that situations, rewards, and fate are controlled by outside forces. Having an internal locus of control is predictive of excelling in school, taking preventative healthcare measures, effectively dealing with stress, being less anxious, and being more content with life.
