Rhythmic whistling has been proposed as an effective treatment for a psychological disorder. Toe tapping has never been proposed as an effective treatment for the same disorder. A group of people diagnosed with the disorder engages in whistling, and 30 percent experience significant relief from the disorder. Another group with the same disorder toe taps for a comparable period, and 30 percent experience significant relief. Is there any evidence for the effectiveness of rhythmic whistling as the proposed treatment for this disorder?

▸ No; the improvement rate for the treatment is no better than the improvement rate for the placebo.

▸ No; improvement rates need to be 50 percent at a minimum to determine effectiveness.

▸ Yes; two forms of treatment were investigated, and each was as good as the other.

▸ Yes; whistling was assumed to be a treatment whereas toe tapping was not.
