In the electron micrograph attached, it shows the process of translation. The question asks what the red and green molecules are, and the answer is that the red molecule is the DNA and the green molecules are the mRNA.

I don't understand the answer. I think that the red molecule is the mRNA, and the green molecules are the polypeptide chains that are being translated by the ribosomes.

From my perspective, the red molecule is the mRNA. The ribosomes read the mRNA and form polypeptides while attached, which to me is the green part.

That's true if it were eukaryotic DNA. Look at this chart displaying the difference. You'll learn that with bacterial DNA, the transcription and translation occurs simultaneously. Hence, the description provided is in fact the answer.
