In genetics, an insertion (also called an insertion mutation) is the addition of one or more nucleotide base pairs into a DNA sequence. This can often happen in microsatellite regions due to the DNA polymerase slipping. An insertion changes the DNA sequence by adding one or more nucleotides to the gene. As a result, the protein made from the gene may not function properly.

Petals don't give rise to new structures. Hence, nothing would happen. The petal is made up of thousands of cells, and the cell cluster that gives rise to the petals is found in the apex of the stem. The arrangement of these cells gives the specific form of the flower. If these genes were inserted into the apex, then it would conflict with the plants ability to generate new petals.
