d) Who has a comparative advantage in the house?

e) Draw their joint production possibility frontier, with # of weeds pulled on the vertical axis (y-axis) and meters of the house cleaned on the horizontal axis.

(a) Jaimie has an absolute advantage in pulling weeds because he pulled more number of weeds than Ashley, in one hour.

(b) Jaimie also has an absolute advantage in cleaning the house because he cleaned more meters of house than Ashley, in one hour.

(c) For Ashley,

Opportunity cost of pulling a weed = 3 / 200

= 0.015 meter of house cleaned

For Jaimie,

Opportunity cost of pulling a weed = 6 / 300

= 0.02 meter of house cleaned

Therefore,

Ashley has the comparative advantage in pulling weeds because she has the lower opportunity cost of pulling weeds.

(d) For Ashley,

Opportunity cost of cleaning one meter of house = 200 / 3

= 66.67 weeds pulled

For Jaimie,

Opportunity cost of cleaning one meter of house = 300 / 6

= 50 weeds pulled

Therefore,

Jaimie has the comparative advantage in cleaning house because he has the lower opportunity cost of cleaning house.
