Can you think of any other obstacles to the adoption of variable pay programs in addition to the four discussed above?

HI John

You didn't state "the four discussed above".

Incentive programmes, bonus programmes, and recognition programmes are the three forms of variable pay programmes. Depending on the type of programme, the design features for variable compensation programmes varies greatly.

1. Incentive Programs - Before the relevant performance period begins, precise performance targets are specified for the relevant performance period, and rewards are contingent on satisfying the criteria. The factors may also determine whether or not rewards are smaller or higher depending on how well performance benchmarks were reached. Example - Sales Target of acquiring 100 new customer can be an incentive for getting an award from the company.

2. Bonus Programs - Bonus payments are conditional on accomplishing a certain task and meeting any applicable conditions that were defined before the task and conditions were completed. Example - Bonus can be given to am employee for any year where he/she has not missed a single day of work.

3. Recognition Programs - Recognition programmes, on the other hand, usually create broad parameters before they are implemented, and prizes may vary depending on the guidelines. Cash prizes, such as spot prizes, or non-cash prizes, such as presents, certificates, or a premium parking place for the employee of the month, may be given out as part of recognition programmes. Example - Certificates for Employee of the Month Award.
