Berger and colleagues (2010) explored how newly-walking toddlers crossed different bridges. They found that:

      
Toddlers were equally successful in crossing all bridges because of their use of appropriate strategies.

      
Many toddlers showed evidence of planning their behavior.

      
Toddlers were only able to make use of one type of information at a time (for example, they could adjust to the width of the bridge, but not the location of the handrail).

      
Only older toddlers adjusted their strategies depending on the situation.
