Corn kernels can be purple or yellow, purple being the dominant color.
Typically, I have been using P to represent the dominat purple alllele and p to represent the recessive yellow allele.
Would it be incorrect to use P to represent the purple allele and y to represent the yellow allele?

In other words, to represent a heterozygous corn plant can you write Py or must it be Pp?

It doesn't matter which letter is assigned, as long as a legend is provided, you're fine.
