"I am now convinced that the simplest approach will prove to be the most effective-the solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income." (Martin Luther King Jr., 1967). The essential principle behind a basic (guaranteed) income is the idea that all citizens are entitled to a liveable income, whether or not they contribute to production (recipients are not obliged to work or look for work). Has the time finally arrived to follow through on MLK's assertion? Is a basic income for every Canadian adult a good idea? What benefits would it offer and what negative impacts might there be? Discuss fully, integrating chapter theories and concepts into your answer.
