In the late 1970s China imposed a one-child policy. Then, in 2015, it implemented a new two-child policy. Why did China implement the one-child policy and then change it a two-child policy?

Responses will vary. The one-child policy was introduced to address their spiralling population growth. In the 2010s the government realized that soon China would have too few adults of working age to support the growing ranks of seniors, so they adopted the two-child policy.
