A client in sickling crisis asks, "Why does this hurt so much?"  Which nursing reponse is indicated?
1. "When your sickled blood cells are destroyed by your spleen, they release bilirubin, which damages your tissues, resulting in pain."
2. "A substance called bradykinin is released from your red blood cells when they are damaged. That substance causes muscle pain."
3. "The sickled cells block the very small vessels in your tissues and keep them from getting enough oxygen.  That causes pain.
4. "We know that sickle cell anemia is very complex, but no one has discovered exactly why the pain occurs."
