Rationales:
1. Ventilation is the actual work of breathing and requires adequate functioning of the ventilatory muscles. A patient who is tetraplegic cannot move these muscles.
2. Diffusion is the mechanism by which oxygen moves across the alveoli and into the pulmonary capillaries. Quadriplegia would not interfere with this process.
3. Perfusion includes the attachment of oxygen to hemoglobin and delivery to the tissues. Quadriplegia would not affect his process.
4. Dilution is not one of the processes of pulmonary gas exchange.
