Calcitonin:
Lowers calcium levels in the blood
Thyroxine:
Increases metabolic rate and regulates growth and development
Parathyroid Hormone:
Increases calcium levels in the blood
Glucagon:
Increases blood sugar levels by stimulating the conversion of glycogen to glucose. It promote glycogenolysis (unlike insulin), which breakdown of glycogen. Thus raises concentration of glucose in the blood.
Cortisol:
Raises blood glucose level in response to long-term stress
Aldosterone:
Promotes the reabsorption of sodium by the kidneys to increase water reabsorption.
Epinephrine:
Triggers fight-or-flight response for short-term stress.
Antidiuretic hormone:
increases water reabsorption in the kidney tubules.
Antidiuretic hormone and aldosterone both help to increase water in blood thus increasing blood pressure. But in contrast to ADH (direct reabsorption of water through osmoregulation), aldosterone cases take up salt and in turn cases water reabsorption.
This gland is the link between the nervous and endocrine systems.
a.hypothalamus
b.thalamus
c.pituitary
d.thyroid
