Is the number 2 to the 11th power minus 1 a Mersenne Prime? Explain/Demonstrate how you arrived at your answer.

I understand that the formula is (2^n-1) 2^11-1 = 2048-1 = 2047. 2047 is not a prime number but is it a Mersenne Prime? My answer is no... is that correct? Thanks.

We know that a Mersenne prime is a prime number that is one less than a power of two. That is, it is a prime number of the form 2ⁿ − 1 for some integer n.

Hence Mersenne prime number is prime number.

Since 211 - 1 = 2047 is not a prime number. Because 2047 = 23×89.

Hence 211 - 1 is not Mersenne number.
