One of my favorite species if the sea otter. It is regarded as a keystone species because they are important in the stability of many food webs. In addition, their activity is central to maintaining the nature of the ecosystem in which they are part of.  For example, their presence maintain healthy kelp forests along Canada's west coast. By controlling sea urchin populations through their predation, they help to protect kelp beds and the surrounding habitats for many other species including fish, birds and other marine mammals.
