A jet ski company charges a flat fee of $24.00 plus $2.25 per hour to rent a jet ski. Another company charges a fee of $23.00 plus $2.75 per hour to rent the same jet ski.

Using a graphing calculator, find the number of hours for which the costs are the same. Round your answer to the nearest whole hour.

cost1 = 2.25h + 24
cost2 = 2.75h + 23

we want cost1 = cost2
2.25h + 24 = 2.75h + 23
1 = .5h
h = 1/.5 = 2

 For 2 hours the cost would be the same

check: if h = 2
cost1 = 4.5 + 24 = 28.5
cost2 = 5.5 + 23 = 28.5
