Engels, like Marx, believed that crime was a product of social stratification, poverty, and inequality. He argued that in capitalist societies, the working class was more likely to commit crimes due to their poverty and lack of access to resources and opportunities. Engels believed that crime was not a natural or inherent aspect of human behavior but rather a product of social and economic conditions. He argued that in a society without classes and inequality, crime would be greatly reduced or eliminated altogether.
