This can happen in any nearly competitive sport, I think...

For example, sprint events like the 100 meters or 200 meters can result in a tie if two or more athletes cross the finish line at the same time. This happened in the men's 100 meters at the 1960 Rome Olympics when American athletes Armin Hary and Dave Sime finished in a dead heat, resulting in a tie for the gold medal.

In swimming events, ties can happen when two or more athletes touch the wall simultaneously. For instance, in the women's 100-meter freestyle at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, American swimmers Nancy Hogshead and Carrie Steinseifer tied for the gold medal.

In artistic gymnastics, ties can occur in events where judges award scores based on performances. If two or more gymnasts receive the same score, they would tie for the gold medal. This has happened in various gymnastics events throughout Olympic history.

Finally, some winter sports like skiing or snowboarding events can result in gold medal ties. For example, at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, the men's downhill skiing event ended in a tie between Dominik Paris of Italy and Johan Clarey of France.
