Therefore, in what way can you know if they are on separate chromosomes or are located very far apart on the same chromosome?

Hi, welcome! Generally, a frequency of recombination of greater than 50 indicates that the genes are independent assorted, and hence are not found on the same chromosome.

If two genes or markers are located on different chromosomes, they will assort independently during meiosis and their inheritance patterns will be unlinked. Thus, if you observe a high frequency of recombination between two genes or markers, it suggests that they are located far apart on the same chromosome or on different chromosomes. On the other hand, if you observe a low frequency of recombination between them, it suggests that they are located close together on the same chromosome.
