The website for the Quantitative Environmental Learning Project (funded by the National Science Foundation) describes data they collected on the lengths and widths of Puget Sound Butter Clams. A scatterplot of the data (with the regression line) is provided.

A scatterplot with a regression line shows the relationship between Length and Width. The horizontal axis is labeled, Length (centimeters) and has markings from 1 to 10 in increments of 1. The vertical axis is labeled, Width (centimeters) and has markings from 1 to 8 in increments of 1. A regression line starts from (1.7, 1.2), increases toward the right, and ends at (9.5, 7.5). The dots are densely scattered throughout the regression line, such that a few dots lie above the regression line, a few dots lie below the regression line, and a few dots lie on the regression line. The dots are plotted between the points, 1.7 to 9.5 on the horizontal axis and between the points, 1.2 to 7.7 on the vertical axis.. All values are approximate.

Use the scatterplot to check each of the conditions for using a linear model with this data. Is using a linear model appropriate for these data?
