The entire larynx is involved because its walls vibrate, creating a composite sound when air passes through the glottis and vibrates the vocal folds. In addition, the sound is modified by amplification and echoing within the pharynx, the oral cavity, and the paranasal sinuses. The sounds are further modified and made distinct by the voluntary movements of the tongue, lips, and cheeks.
