Let:
R be the resistance force,
g be the acceleration due to gravity,
a be the downward acceleration of the ball,
m be the mass of the ball,
u be the initial uwpard velocity,
h be the height reached.

mg + R = ma
a = (mg + R) / m

0^2 = u^2 - 2ah
u^2 = 2(mg + R)h / m
h = mu^2 / [ 2(mg + R) ]
= 2 * 9^2 / [ 2(2 * 9.81 + 6) ]
= 3.16m to 3 sig. fig.
