I'm assuming vascular plants reproduce asexually, while flowering plants need pollen to fertilize them.

a) They are talking about biannual, annual, etc.
b) Insects bring pollen to plants, as do air currents, etc.
c) Insects and currents can disperse offspring as well.

Things just getting caught on clothing, hands, being eaten and then defecated, etc. will cause the dispersement of offspring. Like swallowing a nut without eating it wholly.

Think of bees. Pollen can get caught on its coat. Smiling Face with Open Mouth
