The teacher wants the class to use "derive" which is no longer supported by the manufacturer.  Do you know what is a similar or good software for calculus, preferably cheap?

There is a free calculator for your computer... you can download it here...

I use it all the time instead of the standard windows calculator.

It is capable of graphing in 2 and 3 dimensions, polar and rectangular, among so many other features. Not as good as a handheld TI, though.  But its free and easy to you.

Student version of MATLAB. Also, if you buy and use MATLAB, you will use it for the rest of your career because that is what most of the industry uses. No I don't work for Matlab.

There is MathCAD too. It's not bad but I don't know how much a student version costs nowadays.

Your first choice should be Matlab.

I best one I used - though expensive - is Maple.
