I have searched on the internet and not found much information on this. But I want to know about how much job security do doctors have. I mean because of the rescession can hospitals or clinics lay off doctors? (because people don't have insurance without jobs) How common is this?

Are there doctors who are unemployed and found jobs in other sectors. (like doing other lower paying jobs even though they have an MD)

Oh and also don't call me stupid or anything. I am 16 so I don't know anything about this.

I had a temporary job end after 5 years and will be losing about 60% of my income beginning Jan 1.

I'll find more work, though Slight Smile

Many physicians are self-employed, so they always have a job, though it might be more or less profitable, depending on the economy, their costs, and many other factors.

Family practitioners, pediatricians and many internists are also known as primary care physicians. While most of them do not make the big bucks that other specialists make, there is a high degree of job security, because in most locales there aren't enough to go around.

Still, there are some areas, because of great climate or other factors where there is an excess of primary care docs, and they compete for patients.

Also, I know several docs who obtained great paying jobs with great hours and benefits, but after 10 years they were let go because the company found younger docs who would work more cheaply.
