Get the mass of a hydrated sample.

Drive off all the water

Get the anhydrous mass.

Subtract to get the mass of water.

Convert these masses to moles.

Calculate the ratio of moles (small whole numbers).

Write the formula salt?XH2O where X is the ratio of moles of water to one mole of salt
