You use the load VA plus 10% for UPS losses.

Divide that number by the battery voltage. This will give you the amperes required for the UPS.

Finally, divide the battery ampere-hours (AH) by th amperes. This will give you the backup time.

The total battery AH is the AH of one battery times the number of batteries in parallel, or the AH of one battery if in series.



Example a 100 AH battery will power a 5 ampere load for 100 / 5 = 20 hours.
