Good question,

The hydrogen ions do not necessarily come from the glucose molecule. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the body; hydrogen ions (protons) are always around from other biochemical reactions that take place. In fact, there are plenty of hydrogen ions within the mitochondria. Don't get confused thinking that all the hydrogen ions in our body come from the glucose molecule that is broken down. This is the wrong idea.

If you are still confused reply back.
