- Define BOD5
- Data obtained from winkler determination
Calibration = 0.19 mg per ml of sodium thiosulphate. Sample size = 100 ml. Seed (0 days) = 9ml, Seed (5 days) = 7 ml, hawkesbury river (0 days) = 20 ml, hawkesbury river (5 days) = 10 ml.
- What is the BOD5 of the hawkesbury river water (show calculations)
- Is this acceptable
- why are BOD5 measurements important
-What kind of environmental biotechnology processes would utilize BOD5 and why?
- what biochemical processes are involved in a BOD10?

Never heard of BOD5 before Thinking Face I checked the forum dictionary and I found this:

Hopefully someone else can chime in.

I'm guessing this isn't solved. Allan, check out the following document, it could help answer your questions Wink Face

Chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD5) are two of the most common generic indices used to assess aquatic organic pollution. BOD5 is often used to evaluate the biodegradable fraction, and COD the total organic pollution load of waters contaminated by reductive pollutants.

Concentrations of BOD5 readings will generally report as lower than COD. This is due to differences in the methods of oxidation of the samples.  While BOD5 provides a good approximation of the biologically consumable organic fraction in waterways, the test takes 5 days. Alternatively, COD is able to provide a rapid and reliable estimate of the biogeochemical
interactions in waterways.
