I have 226 sample plots of 1/10 ac. on a study area of 3020 ac. Dead trees greater than 15 in. diameter were counted on each plot. Only 9 plots have values other than zero. Eight plots had one dead tree this big. One plot had two. I want to use these data to make an estimate of dead trees per acre, and thereby the total number on the entire study area. How can I determine the sampling error, and the level of confidence that my estimate reflects the true values?
