The cell has a higher salt concentration than the distilled water. Thus, distilled water would rush into the cell to balance out the salt concentration, and the cell would swell up. If they swell up a lot, the cell with "lyse" (burst).

Plant cells experience the same phenomenon, but because of their cell wall, they will not swell up and burst.

The cell is placed in a hypotonic environment, therefore water will diffuse into the cell causing it to expand and eventually burst.
