Linear EGR systems do not require exhaust backpressure to function. In fact, one of the advantages of linear EGR systems is that they can be more precisely controlled and do not rely on exhaust backpressure to operate effectively. Exhaust backpressure is more commonly associated with older, non-linear EGR systems
