Your question as written doesn't make sense. I presume you meant to say: Why alkanes and their corresponding alkenes have similar physical properties but very different chemical properties?


This is because alkanes have single C-C bonds but alkenes have C=C , double bonds between some C atoms. These bonds can open to add things on, called an addition reaction, so they have different chemical properties.
