A homologous series is a group of organic compounds with similar general formula. It is true that each group of homologous series have the same functional group.

An example of homologous series is:
Alcohol with the general formula of CnH(2n + 1)OH (n ? 1)

The functional group, however, just refers to the structure that represents the homologous series. Using the same example, it would be -OH.
