There are three main types of plastids. They are small plant organelles that serve different purposes.

Chloroplasts: contain chlorophyll and is used by the plant to convert light energy and CO2 into sugar (found mainly in leaves)

Chromoplasts: synthesize and store colorful pigments (found mainly in flowers and fruits)

Leucoplasts: storage plastids; they store starch, fat, and protein (found mainly in the roots; potatoes are a good example)
