Vestigial structures in humans are parts of the body that no longer serve a function or have little or no purpose. They are leftovers from our ancestors. Some examples of vestigial structures are the appendix, the coccyx or the tailbone, the external ear, and the male nipples. Some vestigial structures also result from embryological development, such as the belly button and the hymen. Vestigial structures can arise due to mutations in the genome that change the proteins involved in their formation
