Write a slope-intercept equation for a line passing through the given point that is parallel to the given line. Then write a secon equation for a line passing through the given point that is perpendicular to the given line.
(3,-9); 8x+7y=3

Parallel line: y=

Perpendicular line: y=

rewrite to y = mx + b
y = (-7/4)x + 9/4

-4 = (-7/4)(1) + b    plug in coordinates to solve for new y intercept
-2 1/4 = b              solve for b

y = (-7/4)x -2.25    parallel lines have same slope and different y int
y= (4/7)x -2.25      perpindicular lines have opposite reciprocol slopes and same y int
