It's part of a crossword puzzle. The word contains 6 letters.
I did think it might be goiter but it didn't seem to fit the meaning of the word.

It's not a hormone, but *iodine* is related to hyposecretion of the thyroid. Specifically, inadequate dietary iodine can cause hypothyroid disorders. As far as I know, iodine is the only 6-letter word that makes sense.

Other 6-letter words that relate to hypothyroidism are cretin & goiter, but I doubt that's what you're looking for.
