During the process of translation to make a protein, can a ribosome exit the process and detach from the strand of mRNA?
DUring translation can a ribosome leave the strand of mRNA before hitting a stop codon?

That's what happens when it hits any one of the three STOP codons.

I don't think it can during translation, unless in exceptional cases, because the rRNA and mRNA are bound through complementary interactions. Also, when the stop codon is hit, the ribosome doesn't immediately detached. When a stop codon is encountered, a release factor is recruited into the P site of the ribosome. A few other proteins are then involved which then release the ribosome from the mRNA transcript.

What happens if there is lack of an amino acid? Maybe that will force the ribosome to detach earlier?

Do you mean to say that if the mRNA transcript is missing the amino acid? If the mRNA is missing an amino acid, the ribosome would continue translating whatever is there, because it wouldn't know that the mRNA is missing an amino acid. However, if the tRNA brings in the wrong amino acid, the rRNA will not bind to it because of the lack of complementary interactions to that wrong amino acid.

The DNA is first of all transcribed RNA molecule by a process called transcription. This yields a mRNA (messenger RNA) molecule which then travels out of the nucleus via nuclear pores and may follow either of two chief pathways depending upon type of molecule and type of cell.
