Given the amount of chromosomes in an organism i need to find the amount of diploid and the amount of haploid chromosomes
Lets say i have a Fern with1,262 chromosomes how do i find the haploid and diploid number

Haploid = n
Diploid = 2n..
so, if a Fern has 1, 262 chromosomes total, then he has 2n (2x haploid). 1,262=2n. To find haploid, divide 1, 262 by two. Half of one parent, and the other half of the other parent.
So, a Fern got 631 chromosome from its father and 631 chromosome from its mother.

a fern with 1262 chromosomes, or a fern with 1262 pairs of chromosomes?

a fern with 1262 chromosomes would have a diploid number of 1262, and haploid would be 631

a fern with 1262 pairs would have a diploid number of 2524, and the haploid would be 1262.

it all depends if your fern has 1262 actual chromosomes or pairs.
