Bowman's capsule

The Bowman's capsule is the filtration unit of the glomerulus and has tiny slits in which filtrate may pass through into the nephron. Blood entering the glomerulus has filterable and non-filterable components.

Ascending Loop of Henle

The ascending loop of Henle is the part of the nephron that is permeable to ions, such as sodium and potassium, and it is not permeable to water. It is a major resorptive segment of the nephron and accounts for resorption of nearly a quarter of the filtered load of sodium, chloride, and potassium ions.

Collecting duct (tube)

The collecting duct is the last part of a long, twisting tube that collects urine from the nephrons (cellular structures in the kidney that filter blood and form urine) and moves it into the renal pelvis and ureters.

Renal veins

The renal veins are the veins that drain the kidneys and connect them to the inferior vena cava. The renal vein drains blood from venules that arise from the interlobular capillaries inside the parenchyma of the kidney.

Glomerulus

The glomerulus is a capillary tuft that receives its blood supply from an afferent arteriole of the renal circulation. Here, fluid and solutes are filtered out of the blood and into the space made by Bowman's capsule.

Distal Convoluted tubule

The distal convoluted tubule is a portion of kidney nephron between the loop of Henle and the collecting duct system. The distal convoluted tubule is where secretion takes place.

Descending Loop of Henle

The descending loop of Henle is relatively impermeable to solute but permeable to water. The loop has a sharp bend in the renal medulla going from descending to ascending thin limb. Remember, as stated above, the ascending limb is impermeable to water, but it is permeable to ions.
