Are adaptive radiation and dispersal of animals synonymous? Explanation, please! And if they're different, then how? Far as I know, in radiation, dispersal is actually occurring. But there's a question about it's differece in the book.

Hi vijay_vrs!

Welcome Smiling Face with Open Mouth

Adaptive radiation is when a species is suddenly allowed to diversify due to an increase of available niches. This can happen as a result of a mass extinction or when a population is sent into a new, untapped environment like an island. A classic example would be Darwin's finches.

Dispersal is when the species separates themselves from their place of origin.
