I've had this problem for about 5 years now and it's really bothering me.

I can't be more than 3 hours late for any meal.  If I am 3 hours late, I feel fine, but as soon as I start eating after missing a meal for 3 hours or more, I start getting intense cramping/pain/discomfort in my mid-lower abdominal area.  This pain only starts after I start eating again.  I find that lying down in some positions worsens it very greatly and lying down in some positions alleviates almost all of the pain.  After eating and experiencing the pain, the symptoms subside within 60-120 minutes.  I have been told by my doctor to take anti-acids but are my symptoms really classic of acid reflux?  I think it might be something else.

Thank you for your posting. A stomach ulcer can give you intense hunger-like pains, which usually go away when you eat. It can even wake you up at night. It could also be gastritis (inflammation of the lining of the stomach). To treat it, physicians typically gave you tablets to reduce the acid (proton-pump inhibitors or calcium carbonate). When you don't eat for a prolonged period of time, your stomach releases digestive juices which could irritate an ulcer or an inflamed stomach even more. Have your doctor test you for H. pylori bacteria - the main cause of peptic ulcers.
