Hi everyone,

I'm finishing up my undergrad and trying to figure out my next step. I want to study disease ecology (zoonotic diseases), working in public health. I don't know if I want to be more in the field or lab. I have been looking at schools and there seems to be a few options.

1. Get an MPH
2. Get an MPH and then Biology PhD
3. Go straight for the Biology PhD

I need your help because I don't know what would be best for the career I want to be involved in. I love research and hands on work.

And then also, what can I do after getting the degrees? How do I go about working in public health?

Thank you!

If you have the time, energy, and passion, all three of those options are viable. Most biology majors come out of university hating research, so the fact you like research makes you a perfect candidate for anyone of the those.

It's good to plan out your life the way you're doing, but keep in mind that it's impossible to narrow down what you'll be doing by the end of your study. From my experience, throughout the duration of your study, which will take a minimum of 3 years, you'll develop so many connections that by the end you won't need to worry about jobs.
