Why is the Earth’s tropical year (the time from one vernal equinox to the next) not the same length as its sidereal year (the time needed for the Earth to orbit around the Sun once relative to the distant stars)?

(a)   The direction of tilt of the Earth’s rotation axis is changing.
(b)   The Earth’s sidereal year is not precisely 325.25 days long.
(c)   The length of the Earth’s day is changing.
